Be Mine
What a wonderful time of year, To come on out and grow your hair, Fall in love with me, oh yeah, oh yeah — My Bloody Valentine, We’re So Beautiful
Eschewing the roses, chocolates and jewellery traditions of Valentine’s Day is easy.
We asked friends, family and babes of Miss Crabb how they celebrate their love all year round.
All it requires is a bit of thought, time and a whole lot of love.
Tiffany Jeans of Curio Noir: I love hand-picked flowers and foliage, hand-written notes, walking hand in hand anywhere, kisses and late night alone time with your loved one and candle light.
Papershoes: A loving gesture requires a little thought, time and is ideally wrapped in bacon. Cooking is truly the way to someone’s heart, whether it be for your bestie or your beau.
Kristine Crabb: Send your mother a Valentine. Give your kids a Valentine. Make a baby(!!). Make an erotic movie, for your eyes only! Send a ‘secret admirer’ valentine to your lover…and/or inappropriate crush. Make a mixtape of all your favourite country love songs. Kissing for ages. Have a giggle.
Victoria Spicer: I like using Valentine’s Day as an excuse to tell loads of people I care for or admire that I’m thinking of them. It doesn’t have to be reserved for just lurrveers. It’s hydrangea season! Pick one from a public park and wrap some twine around it. Voila – a beauty. Fish and chips and Belgian beer. A handmade card. Oldie but a damn goodie. Words from the heart too. Can’t go wrong. Send a song (mp3 file) Baked biscuits (wrapped in lovely fabric of choice, with twine, (of course)).
Richard Orjis: My suggestion is to take your lover for a picnic in an old graveyard and enjoy rolling around in long grass and smelling old fashioned roses.
Leilani Heather: The best Valentine’s memory I have is driving with my boyfriend on his motorbike (wearing a pink silk Miss Crabb Rise dress… best and worst idea) down to the wharf, where we ate hot chips and sipped soda. It was super sunny and pretty much a dream date, watching boats cruising under the harbour bridge!
In Finland and Estonia, Valentine’s Day is called Friend’s Day.
In Mexico, Costa Rica and Ecuador, it’s called Dia del Amor y la Amistad or Day of Love and Friendship. It’s tradition for people to perform acts of appreciation for their friends. So, go on.
Miss Crabb does have plenty of lovely Curio Noir candles, Miss Crabb silk lingerie, Alexandra Dodd jewellery and all sorts of other delights in store if you’d like to buy (or hint) at a present for your loved one too.
